We all have pet peeves when we read. Something that sets us off and makes us want to throw the book we’re reading at the wall. Right? I’m not the only one with a kindle dent in my bedroom wall, am I?
Welcome to the Manic Writer
I’m Ann Shannon. This is my August attempt at the #IWSG (Insecure Writer’s Support Group) Blog Hop. I’m so glad you came by and I hope you find something to help you in your writing journey today. I’d love to know your thoughts on this and your journey as a writer. Drop me a comment and let me know how you’re doing! If my thoughts are helpful to you, or if you have questions after reading my ramblings.
I write romance and erotic romance and I focus my blog efforts on Indie Authors because I love them! Won’t you drop your email in that subscribe box to the right and join me in my mania?
And I don’t actually have a kindle dent in my wall. The kindle would never survive that and I’m way too cheap to break it.
I really had to work on this one. I mean, I know things irritate me when I’m reading but I can’t make a list of them. Partly because I try to leave that stuff behind me and focus on the positives, and partly because my memory is terrible.
Really, really terrible.
Who are you? I’m the Manic Writer. Oh, wait, I said that.
I read a lot. I mean a lot, a lot. I read about 2 or 3 books a week though lately I’ve been ill and it’s affected my reading ability. I am getting back to it.
My biggest pet peeve when reading?
Really. I read mostly kindle books, because who has room to store that many books? And I can’t tell you the number of formatting errors that I come across. From a bold capitol letter in the middle of a sentence to improper spacing between words, lines and paragraphs.
It’s incredibly distracting to me and it makes me want to email the author, or publisher, a note and tell them to hire a better formatter.
I know it’s unavoidable. I’ve found formatting errors, and misspellings, in textbooks.
It’s not an indie problem. It’s not even an eBook problem. It’s industry and format wide. But that’s my Pet Peeve.
What’s your pet peeve when reading? Drip me a comment and let me know. (See what I did there?)
I have also read plenty of books without errors. If you are one of the many wonderful authors I’ve read and I haven’t dropped you a kind note mentioning a problem then either it was so small it wasn’t worth mentioning or it wasn’t there. So don’t be nervous.
