Hello, and welcome to the Manic Writer! Today is WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop in which we post a portion of our Work In Progress that relates to the date somehow. For instance, today is 12-21-2016 so I could post 12 words from the 21st page. Each week I’ll tell you the messed up math that I used to decide what to post. You’ll get a good sense of how little math and I get along. If you love WIPpet Wednesday then check out the #wippeters on Twitter and follow this link for even more fun!
Today I got my excerpt by adding 12, 28 and 16 together and then multiplying by 2 because it’s 2016. (I did warn you that math was a sketchy enterprise with me. Fortunately, I’m much better with words.)
Context: Lylah has been woken by a phone call from David two days after their fateful meeting on New Year’s Eve.
“I was just wondering how you got my number? I don’t remember giving it to you.” Unless I was drunker than I thought I was. The thought taunts me for a moment but I dismiss it. I know I wasn’t so drunk on New Year’s Eve that I’d have given David my number. I don’t think I’ve ever been that drunk.
“Oh right. Fair enough. Jerry gave it to me. I hope you don’t mind.”
I make a mental note to slip something into the next batch of cookies I make for Jerry, and to make sure June and Cesar (their adorable five year old son) don’t eat them by mistake. “Of course. You know him from college, right?”
What do you think? Will she make Jerry the promised poison cookies? Will she manage to dissuade David from asking her out? You can read and find out for free by subscribing here.
