Have you eaten today? More than chips or gummy worms? Have you stepped away from your computer to have a meal with a loved one? I didn’t plan this post to fall during NaNoWriMo but it did and I think it’s well timed.
Welcome to the Manic Writer
I’m Ann Shannon, the Manic Writer and this is my November contribution to the #authortoolbox blog hop. The #authortoolbox hop is hosted by Raimey Gallant. She’s an amazing blogger with a background in marketing and she writes!
You can click here to check out Raimey and the other participants in the hop. They’re a great bunch of bloggers and writers and I’m excited to be a part of the group. As for me, I write romance and I spotlight Indie Authors on my blog because Indie’s are awesome! I giveaway an indie book every month. Won’t you drop your email in that subscribe box and join me in my mania?
The focus of the #authortoolbox is to help our fellow authors be, well, authors. The topics range from marketing, to editing, critiquing and author related products. I’ve learned a lot from hopping around the various posts and I’ve contributed my own planning system. You can check out the #authortoolbox tag on the sidebar to see my other posts and get my printables to help you organize your own days, weeks, months and years. If you’re an author you can even join the hop! That link above to check out the other posts is where you sign up.
This is the third installment in my new column about the author and self-care. Though it’s really just me reminding myself what I should do to take better care of myself. My guess is there are many people out there who also need the reminder and so I’ll talk out loud and offer it to them as well. Besides I learn best when I take notes.
Regular eating habits
In the midst of a project, or a muse attack, or particularly good run, they can go unattended. And folks… food fuels your brain. You need regular nutrition to finish those projects, have another great day of 10K words, or even hear the muse sometimes.
More than that food is a social activity, something that we writers need. Badly. It’s good for us to sit around a table and listen to bad knock knock jokes, or hear how terrible someone’s job is. It’s fun to hear how well our friends and family are doing.
It’s NaNoWriMo month and it’s likely that in an effort to reach that magic 50K number some of my readers might be neglecting their body’s need for nutrition and socialization. I want to encourage you. You can do both. Make time to take care of yourself too, not just your novel.
I’m not going to hit you with a bunch of links and references about eating, or how many calories you need. I’m not going to recommend this diet or that one. Eat what you love, and make sure you are feeding your body and your brain. Make sure that not too many of those meals are leaving crumbs on your keyboard. Seriously, they can be hard to shake out. Just eat. Feed your brain.
Go make plans now!
